Let’s explore the world of metaphysics, starting with its roots in the I Ching (The Book of Changes) and Feng Shui. You might have already heard or learned about one or both. Maybe you’ve encountered Plum Blossom Divination or even studied the I Ching (Yi Jing) before. However, both systems can work together. Thus, we’ll show you how and why they matter.
What is the I Ching About?
I Ching is all about understanding life’s cycles and your internal energy. Every person has a life force—an energy that goes through stages: birth, growth, decline, and return. As a result, regardless of your destiny chart, we all experience the same cycle. Knowing this serves as a reminder of how valuable time is. When we realize time is limited, we stop wasting it. We prioritize what truly matters—our experiences, relationships, and peace of mind.
Thus, I Ching helps you:
- Understand life’s patterns & purpose
- Make better choices in difficult times
- Build emotional strength and wisdom
Many people are stuck not because they’re on a downward spiral but because they lack clarity. Therefore, I Ching helps you gain wisdom to move forward.
What is Feng Shui About?
Feng Shui is all about positioning. It’s the art of situating yourself in the right place at the right time to receive positive energy. Therefore, practitioners would tell you to sit or sleep facing a direction. It would align you with beneficial energy flows. This positive energy raises your frequency. When that happens, you naturally feel happier and attract better opportunities.
Thus, Feng Shui helps you:
- Boost weak destiny charts
- Attract luck and support
- Improve your environment for success
But here’s a fun truth: Feng Shui can’t fix ignorance. Therefore, if someone doesn’t want to grow or change, Feng Shui won’t help. It’s like giving a high-speed car to someone who doesn’t know how to drive.
Why Use Both Systems?
- I Ching = Internal mastery (emotions, mindset, wisdom)
- Feng Shui = External success (luck, people, opportunities)
When you combine both, you get an unfair advantage. I Ching helps you understand life’s cycles. On the other hand, Feng Shui supports you when you position yourself in a space with good energy. Thus, you’re wise inside and aligned outside. That is how you can achieve real success and fulfillment.
The Best Ways to Use I Ching (Yi Jing)
You can use the I Ching in two main ways: Philosophy and Divination.
1. Philosophy – How to Think and Live Better
Philosophy is about mindset. It helps you understand how to think and act in a way that leads to a better life. We can make better choices with the guidance from the I Ching. Thus, when we do good things, we align with the natural flow of the universe.
Have you met someone who always faces the same problem no matter where they go? Maybe they argue with their boss or clash with coworkers, even in different jobs. Therefore, the real issue may not be the job, but the person’s mindset. Using the I Ching as a guide helps you see these patterns. It can help you grow and stop repeating the same mistakes.
2. Divination – Gaining Insight into Life
Most people use the I Ching for divination, which involves asking questions and gaining information. It’s similar to using Tarot cards. You ask a question, and the system offers guidance. But I Ching goes deeper. It doesn’t just help you understand emotions like tarot. I Ching can reflect your thoughts, feelings, relationships, people, situations, and strategies. It can represent objects, ideas, wisdom, and almost anything.
Divination means letting go of control and allowing the universe to guide you. It’s not magic or spells. It’s simply about removing your personal bias and choosing randomly. That’s why I Ching takes a lifetime to master. It is always evolving, just like the world does. Even in today’s world of AI and technology, I Ching is relevant because it adapts.
The Heart of I Ching – The Hexagrams
The system behind the I Ching is based on hexagrams. Each hexagram comprises six lines— solid (Yang) or broken (Yin). Thus, these lines represent opposites in life: light and dark, fast and slow, happy and sad. There are 64 hexagrams in total. Each one describes a situation or pattern in life. Whatever you’re going through, there’s a hexagram that fits it. It is how I Ching delivers advice: by divining the hexagram that corresponds to your topic or situation.
That means the hexagram must come from chance, whether drawing a card face-down, flipping coins, or using an app. Even using dice or poker cards works, as long as it’s random. Therefore, there’s no need for any ritual or chanting. The I Ching is about synchronicity, or meaningful coincidence. Carl Jung, a famous psychologist, believed the I Ching allows us to tap into deeper wisdom through this synchronicity.
When you use the I Ching for divination, these 64 hexagrams serve as a map or guidance system.
Why Hexagrams Matter
I Ching teaches that everything has two sides, like Yin and Yang. Each choice has a cause and effect, a Yin and a Yang. Therefore, by sleeping late, you’ll be exhausted the next day. On the other hand, when you choose to exercise, you progress towards a better lifestyle. Even modern computers are created on this concept — 0s and 1s — the binary system, just like Yin and Yang.
So when you look at the I Ching, you’re not just looking at ancient wisdom. You’re looking at a system that reflects how everything works — choices, change, and balance.
How to Do a Simple I Ching Reading
- Pick a Hexagram: Randomly draw a card, flip coins, or use an app.
- Find the Focus Line: Each hexagram has six lines. Randomly choose which one is the “focus line.” This line informs you what to pay attention to in your reading.
You can mark the focus line however you like—a circle, a sticker, or a cartoon icon. Therefore, it’s similar to a bookmark for your reading. The most important rule? You must not interfere.
Some purists say you should use only yarrow stalks or turtle shells. But the truth is: any method is valid, as long as it’s random and you’re not controlling the result. Even digital apps work. What matters is that you’re honest and open to the message. If a reading feels wrong, it’s not the I Ching’s fault—it may just mean you misunderstood the message.
Why Simplicity Is Powerful
Even experienced practitioners sometimes overlook the basics. As a result, strong fundamentals are what make a true master. Great masters don’t overcomplicate things — they know how to keep it simple. Some people make things too complicated in an attempt to appear intelligent. But when you ask them to explain clearly, they can’t. A true expert can provide a straightforward response that addresses the core of the issue.
Step 1: Using Indirect Guidance?
When you ask the I Ching (Yijing) a question, the answer doesn’t directly match what you asked. But that doesn’t mean it’s wrong — it could be showing you something you didn’t realize was important.
For example: You might ask, “Should I take Job A or Job B? One is in Australia, and one is in China.” You’d expect the answer to point to one job. But sometimes the I Ching might say, “Take care of your family first. They need you.” Now, that seems off-topic — but it’s powerful. Perhaps something more important was overlooked while you were pursuing your career. Therefore, that’s what we call indirect guidance. It reveals what you’re not seeing.
Step 2: Find the Focus Line
Every hexagram has six lines. Thus, the changing (moving) line is the focus line. It’s where the main issue is.
- Lines 1–3 = Lower trigram (represents internal or inside the house)
- Lines 4–6 = Upper trigram (represents external or outside the house)
It advises you whether the problem is inside or outside. If the focus line is Line 3 → it’s internal (e.g., the bedroom or kitchen). On the other hand, if the focus line is Line 5 → it’s external (like the road, mountain, or neighbor’s roof).
Step 3: Check the Trigram for Direction
Now look at which trigram the focus line belongs to. Each trigram represents a direction based on the Later Heaven Ba Gua:
- ☰ Qian = Northwest
- ☷ Kun = Southwest
- ☲ Li = South
- ☵ Kan = North
- ☶ Gen = Northeast
- ☴ Xun = Southeast
- ☱ Dui = West
- ☳ Zhen = East
So if the focus line is on the upper trigram, and that trigram is Dui (☱), then the problem is located in the West, outside the house.
Step 4: Getting More Specific with Location Guidance
You can do this by asking for more guidance and drawing a new hexagram. Every hexagram you draw will give you a focus line (1 to 6). Therefore, it refers to a specific area or issue in the property.
What Each Line Means:
- Line 1: Mountain-related issue. Thus, a nearby mountain, hill, or large landform affects your Feng Shui.
- Line 2: Structural problem. Look for missing corners, beams, columns, or even leaking pipes.
- Line 3: Bright Hall issue. The space in front of your main door might be too small, blocked, or have a sharp object pointing toward it.
- Line 4: Main door issue. The main entrance may be in the wrong place or need adjustment.
- Line 5: Water or road problem. Thus, it could be bad water placement, inferior water quality, or a problematic road like a T-junction.
- Line 6: Altar or bedroom issue. Look at the altar area (if any) or the bedroom. It could be either one or both.
Using I Ching Feng Shui for Manifestation (Not Just Divination!)
Most people are familiar with the I Ching (Yijing) and Feng Shui as tools for divination, but they can also aid in manifestation. Since we’re now in Period 9, spiritual energy is more powerful. In techniques like Qimen Dunjia, we usually focus on direction when manifesting, like backing South, North, or any of the eight (8) directions. The sector (where you sit or stand in your house) doesn’t matter as much.
However, if you combine I Ching, Feng Shui, and Qi Men, you can add an extra boost by choosing the right sector and backing the best direction. Alternatively, you can be backing the direction based on your Guardian of Destiny. Thus, it makes your manifestation more effective. One method you can use for manifestation is the Year Replace Year method.
This technique is not designed for Small Tai Ji setups, such as those in small corners or mini altars. It’s for whole-room or full-sector use.
Introducing the Purple White Script
We deploy the Purple White Script, an ancient Feng Shui system that works well in Period 9. It focuses on two types of stars:
- White Stars (related to numbers 1, 6, 8)
- Purple Star (number 9)
These stars are dominant in this period. Thus, this system is handy for both Feng Shui and manifestation. Purple White isn’t just a fancy name—it’s a coded system. It’s like cracking a secret formula. Many experienced Feng Shui masters use this method because it taps into deeper energy patterns.
Year Replace Year Chart – What It Means
Each year, we use a technique called the Year-Replace-Year chart. This adds the year’s ruling energy (based on the Chinese Zodiac) to the Flying Star Chart.
2025 is the Year of the Snake, and the Dragon is in the Southeast 3 sector. The number in the Southeast is 1. So, we “fly the chart” again to include the Grand Duke in the center to get a more accurate reading. Therefore, the updated I Ching Hexagram chart helps us understand what each area of your home supports in 2025.
Why Avoid the Northeast in 2025?
In 2025, the North East is a sector to avoid due to the Flying Star 5 – known as the “Five Yellow”- which brings misfortune. However, you only activate this energy if you renovate, live there long-term, or spend lots of time there. Just passing through or sitting briefly won’t trigger anything.
But if you’re still worried, don’t use the North East in 2025. There are many other powerful sectors this year. Meanwhile, you can check out our earlier post about the Feng Shui Flying Stars of 2025. Let your home support your goals!
Key Feng Shui Sectors in 2025 and Their Powers With I Ching
The Good Sectors of 2025:
East – Beauty & Anti-Aging: This is the Beauty Hexagram. Thus, it helps you look younger and more attractive. Especially great for women over 55, but it works for everyone. Use this space to boost confidence and charm. The East sector also houses the “Three Killings”.
South East – Motivation & Drive: This is the Not Yet Accomplished Hexagram. Therefore, it sparks hunger and ambition. Perfect if you need motivation to lose weight, pursue goals, or break bad habits. Warning: It might bring a bit of pain first—pain that fuels growth.
South – Pause & Preparation: This is the Waiting Hexagram. It teaches you to be patient, strategic, and calm — to wait with purpose, not passivity. Waiting isn’t wasting. However, it’s active alignment, where you prepare your heart, your space, and your spirit for what’s to come. Treat your South sector like a sacred pause button with faith, patience, and preparation.
South West – Likability & Social Growth: This is the Influence Hexagram. It makes you more likable. Great for first impressions and growing a social media following. People will naturally want to connect with you.
West – Focus & Persistence: This is the Consistency Hexagram. Therefore, it helps build strong mental focus and unwavering belief. Great for entrepreneurs or anyone who gives up too quickly. Use this space to stay on track.
The Bad Sectors of 2025:
North West – The Returning Hexagram indicates that support is returning — people, opportunities, clarity, or strength you thought was gone may come back. There may be a new cycle in leadership or a reawakening of purpose; however, arguments and disputes might be inevitable. It’s also ideal for realigning with mentors or restarting delayed plans.
North – The Tread Hexagram symbolizes cautious progress and the respect for timing, hierarchy, and natural order. It encourages ethics, grace under pressure, and behaving with awareness and integrity when dealing with power or risk.
North East – The Observation Hexagram represents contemplation, mindfulness, and clarity. It’s about creating a sacred stillness zone in 2025 due to the presence of the “Five Yellow”. Therefore, you should maintain the sector quiet, clean, and grounded. Set up a meditation space, reading corner, or altar.
🚫 What About the Center?
In Feng Shui, the Center of the home influences the “heart” or overall tone of the year. Therefore, we don’t use the center for manifestation. It shows the overall mood of the year. In 2025, it’s the Alliance Hexagram, which implies people will be actively learning, making connections, or understanding hidden patterns.
This also means there’s potential for healing fractured relationships. Most homes will be affected by themes of connection, collaboration, and trust. Therefore, people are more likely to reunite, form strong partnerships, or attract allies who support their goals.
